January 15th Newsletter
During this season of Epiphany, we celebrate the in-breaking of God into our daily lives. This past Sunday, we explored more about the humanity of Christ, and this coming Sunday we will see the Divinity of Christ. One thing I have been reminded of this Epiphany is how John the Baptist was able to recognize Jesus as the Son of God, the long awaited Messiah. He knew the Scriptures and was ready for this in-breaking of God. When the clouds parted and God spoke, John recognized the Holy Spirit and God’s affirmation. John was ready and prepared.
I have heard N.T. Wright say several times that, for Christians to be ready to recognize God at work we have to be reading the Bible regularly. He suggests that we read it cover to cover once a year. I know that can seem daunting, but maybe this is one way that we can encourage and support each other. Here is a link to a YouTube video where he talks about reading the Bible.
Please remember to pray for our youth this weekend as the participate in their Come Away weekend. Thank you to Joe for his work in pulling this together for our
young people. Jason Craig will be preaching for us this Sunday, so you can also remember him in your prayers as he prepares.
Peace to each of you this week,
