Dear DaySpringers,

Happy Wednesday to you. I’m writing happily from my office at the church after being away for a couple of weeks . . .what a relief it is to be home. For the first two weeks of January, I was in San Antonio at the Oblate School of Theology where I am a student in their Doctor of Ministry program. This is my fifth class of seven. I’ll go again in June and then next January and then I enter the project and writing phase of the program. This class was particularly good and challenging, “The Hermeneutics of Scripture in Ministry and Spirituality.” (The title alone is a mouthful.) Now I write a paper, due in about a month.

I’d also like to share with you the good news that I am teaching at Truett Seminary this semester a course called “Creation Care as Spiritual Practice”. The course begins this Friday afternoon, meeting occasionally until Spring Break when we take the group of students to Robert and Melinda Creech’s farm near Floresville, Texas, southeast of San Antonio. All along we will read texts on the theology, spirituality, and ethics of our relationship with God’s creation. I can tell you that the image in my mind all along is how the windows in our sanctuary invite us into worship of God joining in along with the natural world around us. In that way among others, I see this is an opportunity for the spirit of DaySpring to be shared with future ministry leaders. The center point of all of this for the class is food, especially the eucharist. We’ll reflect on the giving and receiving of communion as an invitation to living generously and receiving thankfully in all our lives. Please pray for me, for the students, and for Robert and Melinda who feed this whole crowd for a week!

Speaking of food, after we share communion Sunday morning, please come back Sunday night for the Quarterly Meeting and to share a splendid tamale supper. Our friend, our Sister, Carla is hand-making traditional Honduran tamales for the meal so we're in for a special treat and opportunity to support and encourage her. More information below on what you can bring to share. Let’s eat together with generosity and gratitude!

See you soon. God’s peace to you. I’m praying for you this week.
