September 25th Newsletter
Many thanks to Jeremy Everett for his fascinating and inspiring session with us during the Sunday School hour and then his preaching during worship. Jeremy and those who are working with the Texas Hunger Initiative are pioneering research and action into the issue of hunger and food insecurity. I saw just today that they received a $5 million grant to experiment with a program to deliver food to children in rural areas during summer months. If you would like to know more about Jeremy’s work, he offers a very fine introduction in his new book I Was Hungry, which you can purchase by clicking here. If you missed (or didn’t get enough of) our Q&A session, Jeremy and I will be doing it again (with all the same jokes, for sure) at Fabled Bookstore on Thursday, October 3 from 7-9 pm.
As we introduced at the close of worship on Sunday, this is the season we’re being asked to sign up on the DaySpring Ministries Chart for our place in the church’s life and ministry for the coming year (beginning Nov 1). You can find more information and sign up here or in the narthex. Everyone is invited and encouraged (you don’t have to be an official member) to take part somewhere in the life of the church.
Sign ups will be available here during Dinner on the Grounds tonight if you’d like to ponder your commitment while holding a wonderfully greasy Whizzbang’s burger. No better way, if you ask me.
Have a blessed week. I look forward to being with you tonight, Friday night (for Undergraduate Friday School), or Sunday morning.
